Success in business is possibly the ends towards which every organisation intends to achieve. However, this achieving such ends is no easy task. Management theories and organisational studies already exist in literature to provide businesses and organisation some semblance of a formula for success. Though some models may have been tried and tested in the field, there are instances that show that it is not cut-and-dried. Some models are not wholly applicable to each and every organisation making organisational success still ever so elusive.Though these models of organisational development apparently fail to establish some form of consistency with its applications, some aspects of the model still provide improvements in the organisations. Overcome Social Problem Among Youth free essay sample

Malaysia is categorized as third world country and has received rapid growth in socioeconomic and advance technologies. The globalization makes the world become smaller and all the information could be obtained easily by clicking on the computers. World without any barrier allows cultures from other countries influence the Malaysian especially the youths. There are good and bad cultures. The social problems emerged due to bad cultures from other countries. Cultures which we do not feed into our own cultural and religious values. Most young generations cannot identify and analyse what are the good and bad things. It could be eliminate the moral values in each young generation. The social evils that are plaguing our society today could hardly be catalogued, they are uncountable in the true sense of the assertion. Among the prominent social problems are the escalating crime waves, religious intolerance, disrespect for elders, laziness and lateness of duty, widespread of diseases, ostentatious spending, abortion, pre-marital pregnancy, elope (run off secretly to be married and usually without the consent or knowledge of one’s parent), disciplinary problem, psychological problem, slow down development of the country, and alcohol consumption. We will write a custom essay sample on Overcome Social Problem Among Youth or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page These are the effects of our social problem among Malaysian youth. First of all we will discuss the escalating crime waves among our Malaysian youth. These days our Malaysian youth are involve in many crime whether its small or big. One of the most common among our youth are drug abuse. Its sad to see the future of our country the be involve with this kinds of social problems, at a very young age they are throwing their lives and future away. We the society used to think that drug abuser are only among uneducated society and parents. This statements has change among the years as the children from educated and high society parents are one of the biggest drug abuser. These are the Malaysian youth with the free flow of money to buy all sorts of drug such as marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine and many more. This statement does not mean that the youth from the low income society are not involved. This are the youth that will cause many more crime due to their addiction to drugs. The drug abuser that come from this society does not have the free flow of money as the high society youth have to they will result to other ways. Ways such as being a snatch thief, house robber, stealing cars and motorcycle. Some of them will go as far to killing people to get what they want. Social ills among youths that occurred this period now. Accordingly, various measures should be highlighted to overcome social ills among youths. First is the role of parents. Parents should monitor and protect their children. In modern times, many parents busy with their career and leave their children without any independent oversight. Hence, monitoring of the parents is important to avoid social problems among youths. Thus, the role of communities in addressing social ills. Society plays an important role in addressing social problems. Community should not remain silent when you see something social ills that happen. It should have taken appropriate action. Happy and harmonious family is also very important to address the problem among youths. As example is eating together or watching television with family members. Having quality time with family members will be able to strengthen ties between families. Some other way to solve this problems that occur among youths, youths need to be selective in selecting friends. By this way the youths need to have good friend to avoid them trapped in social problems. Youths can preferred partners who will help them that can give great advice regarding social ill such as smoking, drug abuse, dumping baby and others. Most of the times in a day youths spend more time with their friends rather than their own families. This could give a great impact in their personality and style of thinking. Other than that, after school programs could overcome the social problem among youths. Programs that could attract the interest of the youths can prevent them from spending their time loitering around shopping complex, cyber cafe, and others places. Time they spend to carry out these activities cause them to be more disciplined. More extra co-curiculum activities should be held by the school, so that the teenagers and children will use their free-time for much more useful activities. Thus, they would not have time to be waste and doing useless activities which will leads them to involved in social problems. As most of the activities conduct for extra co-curriculum giving great moral values and have great point of views in life. Youths can learn and share of ideas with their friends. Mass media is one mechanism that has a great influence and effective in the formation of human personality. It is a socialization agent and plays an important role in growing and promoting practices morally in society. Mass media can shape the hearts manner, mentality and personality especially people who operate 24 hours. Mass media should be free from ideology grip secularism, the extreme commercial culture, ideology and material inducement to live in luxury. Mass media must have a basic philosophy and policies in line with the communication moral values of Islam. Officials should increase the mass media sense of accountability, responsibility and their obligation to enforce impartial and noble values such as truth, honesty and so forth. Consumer mass media, especially those who are responsible as parents, teachers, political leaders and administrators should be more wise in the lead, guide, improve rationality, maturity and alertness and ability to choose to broadcast a more useful waching by children or those who are under their care. Mass media can also actually be a vehicle through various channels such as information technology, advanced Internet, multimedia and so on. Last but not least and one of the main thing that can overcome this problem is the function of Religion. If a person obey the commands and needs of their religion they will not necessarily have been running into problems. Religion teaches every single of their people to be a good persons and be great person by obeying His orders and teach moral values to be a kind person and how to live their life. Therefore, loyal order of god can guide mankind to follow the truth, and not to go the wrong way. In other words, a good selection will help prevent social problems in the youths themselves. As a conclusion, social problems can only be solved not just by the person itself its also need the role of others in order to ensure youths to overcome the social problem. Every single component of the family, organization, friends and others that evolves should play their part in educating youths to live a great life ahead avoiding the social problem.

Atomic Bomb Essays - Atomic Bombings Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki

Atomic Bomb Essays - Atomic Bombings Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Atomic Bomb This report is about the Atomic Bomb, what it demolished, and what were different opinions on the war. Of course there were many different opinions, ranging from we didnt have to do it. To it was the only thing that seemed possible to get the war stopped. And others wonder why it had to be over civilian homes and work places. Roosevelt knew all about the bomb. The bomb was under a top-secret name called. THE MANHATTEN PROJECT! Albert Einstein and other nuclear physicists persuaded Roosevelt to set up a program for a bomb of such destruction before the Nazis did. 12 days into Trumans reign as President he was notified of the top-secret bomb. And was asked what he wanted to do. He decided to drop the bomb as we all know. Henry L. Stimson Sec. Of War was the chief advisor to Roosevelt about the bomb. After F.D.R died and Truman took over, Truman had to rely strictly on what Stimson told him about the bomb since Truman eventhough he was V.P knew nothing about the new bomb being developed. As I read Stimson, Roosevelt and Truman had all been for dropping the bomb. Ralph Bards was Under Secretary of the Navy at the time was for dropping the bomb but he thought that Japan deserved some type of warning 2-3 days before actually dropping it. After the bomb was dropped he said that Japan would have made peace with g iving them warning and in turn we gave them all the tremendous things we gave them in those 5 daysParticipation in the war. Eisenhower did not like that idea of using the bomb. He didnt like the fact that the U.S would initiate such a devastating weapon.. On April 12, 1945 Truman was told that Roosevelt had died, shortly after he found out about the bomb. He never said if it was right or wrong. After talking to Winston Churchill Prime Minister of England he made the decision after Churchill said if it would help end the war then go for it. On August 6th 1945 at 8:09 a.m. the first of 2 Atomic Bombs was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. The bomb devastated many millions of Square miles. Killed and burned many people. Hiroaki Ichikawa was 5 years old at the time and he said that People were so badly burnt that skin was hanging right off their bones. After many children had been quoted and in which I just read, the crew of the bomber plane said that he expressed awe and shock. The flash blinded some of the men after the bomb exploded. Crewman Carry could only say Holy Moses what a mess. My god Said another crewman. What have we done. This war is over, shouted one man. Yet one crewman could only say Good God could anyone live through that down there. As the plane made its long trip back to its base one crewman wrote to his son and this is basically what he said. This isnt meant to read until your older but now one single plane can destroy and devastate a whole city. A journalist said that Truman never actually said yes to drop the bomb. He described it as a little boy on a toboggan. He never was really given a chance to say yes. But he never uttered the words no dont do it. Basically what he was trying to say was that Roosevelt and the people that knew about it before Truman were already making the decision. Many people ask if Japan was properly warned. People say that if Japan knew that the U.S would drop such a devastating bomb they would have surrendered right then and there. But they say if the U.S had to drop the bomb they should have done it in a less populated area that would have just shown the enormous power of the bomb. I think that the bomb was the right thing to do. Maybe it shouldnt have been dropped on such a populated area but you cant second-guess what they did. They had to get this war over. This isnt the first war that civilians have been

Definition and Examples of Telicity in English Grammar

Definition and Examples of Telicity in English Grammar In linguistics, telicity is the aspectual property of a verb phrase (or of the sentence as a whole) which indicates that an action or event has a clear endpoint. Also known as aspectual boundedness. A verb phrase presented as having an endpoint is said to be telic. In contrast, a verb phrase that is not presented as having an endpoint is said to be atelic. See Examples and Observations below. Also see: AspectGrammaticalizationTransitivity EtymologyFrom the Greek, end, goal Examples and Observations Telic verbs include fall, kick, and make (something). These verbs contrast with atelic verbs, where the event has no such natural end-point, as with play (in such a context as the children are playing). - David Crystal, A Dictionary of Linguistics and Phonetics, 4th ed. Blackwell, 1997 Testing for TelicityOne reliable test to distinguish between telic and atelic verb phrases is to try using the gerund form of the verb phrase as direct object of complete or finish, which refer to the natural point of completion of an action. Only telic verb phrases can be used in this way. . . . [What did you do last night?] - I finished {repairing the roof / *repairing}. (Repair the roof is a telic VP while repair is atelic.)It was 11:30 p.m. when I completed {writing the report / *writing}. (Write the report is a telic VP while write is atelic.)He {stopped / *finished / *completed} being their leader in 1988. (Be their leader is an atelic VP.) Unlike finish and complete, the verb stop refers to an arbitrary endpoint. It can therefore be followed by an atelic verb phrase. If it is followed by a telic one, stop is by implicature interpreted as referring to a provisional endpoint preceding the natural point of completion: I stopped reading the book at five. (implicates that I had not finished reading the book when I stopped reading it) (Renaat Declerck in cooperation with Susan Reed and Bert Cappelle, The Grammar of the English Tense System: A Comprehensive Analysis. Mouton de Gruyter, 2006) Verb Meaning and Telicity Because telicity is so dependent on clausal elements besides the verb, it could be debated whether it is represented in verb meaning at all. In order to explore that debate, lets start by comparing watch and eat. Examples (35) and (36) provide a minimal pair, in that the only element that differs in the two sentences is the verb. (35) I watched a fish. [Atelic-Activity](36) I ate a fish. [Telic-Accomplishment] Since the sentence with watch is atelic and the sentence with eat is telic, it seems we must conclude that the verb is responsible for the (a)telicity of the sentence in these cases, and that watch is by its nature atelic. However, that easy conclusion is complicated by the fact that telic situations can also be described with watch: (37) I watched a film. [Telic-Accomplishment] The key to whether each of these situations is telic or not is in the second argumentthe verbs object. In the atelic watch example (35) and the telic eat example (36), the arguments look identical. Go a little deeper, however, and the arguments do not seem so similar. When one eats a fish, one eats its physical body. When one watches a fish, it is more than the physical body of the fish that is relevantone watches a fish doing something, even if all it is doing is existing. That is, when one watches, one watches not a thing, but a situation. If the situation that is watched is telic (e.g. the playing of a film), then so is the watching situation. If the watched situation is not telic (e.g. the existence of a fish), then neither is the watching situation. So, we cannot conclude that watch itself is telic or atelic, but we can conclude that the semantics of watch tell us that it has situation argument, and the the watching activity is coextensive with . . . the arguments situation. . . .Many verbs are like this- their telicity is directly influenced by the boundedness or telicity of their arguments, and so we must conclude that those verbs themselves are unspecified for telicity. - M. Lynne Murphy, Lexical Meaning. Cambridge University Press, 2010 Telicity in the strict sense clearly is an aspectual property which is not purely or even primarily lexical. - Rochelle Lieber, Morphology and Lexical Semantics. Cambridge University Press, 2004

Will a global society and economy still need a dominant, Essay

Will a global society and economy still need a dominant, professionally-run global press Describe what it would look like or what would replace it. Consider what its role and influence would be - Essay Example Due to technological revolution, there has been a fast development of the digital communication through the global press (Flew, 2007). For capitalists, they argue that the human races is entering the golden age where all that people would need to do is to sit back and let the markets and technology do the shopping for them. This is because the global press industry is changing quite fast and hence a demand for instant coverage and the need to decrease the budgets with the sole objective of releasing ethical news. With all eyes on globalization, change in technology and ethical transmission of news with emphasis on deadline ethics, professionally run global media will change how individuals think with the contemporary society (Flew, 2007). Whereas previously the media system were primarily remote, in the past few years we have witnessed the growth of the professionally run global press with two distinct but related facets. This is because professionally run global press is cutting across the world by facilitating faster cross cutting of the world through technology. This is to aid the firms in the global economy to capitalize on the potential of growth abroad without being impacted by flurry competitors given that the local economies already is saturated with incremental expansion. The other facet is that the consolidations and convergence all depend about the day given that some of the global media houses are increasingly becoming concentrated. This is because the major players in the media industry are majorly branches of the global media conglomerates due to the onset of mergers and acquisitions (SHERMAN, (2002, October 2). It is a fact that the global American media leaves many gaps to be desired whether you want news about the media, the war on terrorism, global trade or simply general information and the understanding of the majority of the world’s population who are non-Americans. This has made the reporting of news difficult due to the

An Analysis of Jane Austin's Emma Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

An Analysis of Jane Austin's Emma - Essay Example The protagonist belongs to the highest social position in Hartfield’s estate in Surrey, in the village of Highbury of Regency England. He has social responsibilities towards other members holding lesser or poor social positions. Emma is a young woman possessing great amount of charm and tenacity, but misguided by imaginative skills that cloud her judgment. Jane Austen's â€Å"Emma† is a sophisticated example of fiction employing the art of high wit, elements such as irony, subtlety, diction etc to achieve overall effect to the narrative. "Emma," set in a fictional village of rural England within the timeline of the early nineteenth century, is structured around consummated and/or anticipated marriages. The narrative implies the relationship among different characters in a subtle way, providing deeper understanding of the characters that are apparent to only a vigilant reader. The novel involves the development of the character, Emma, from being an ambivalent and naive p erson to a mysterious individual. The plot involves the courtship and romantic connections of three major couples and their ultimate marriages. Austin presents marriage as a fundamental aspect of the society that appropriates and solidifies the social status of individuals. In â€Å"Emma† the institution of marriage is also used as the reason for all conflicts and excitement among its characters. Apart from the primary theme of courtship and marriage, the theme of social class also plays a vital role in the novel. Through this novel, Austin asserts the necessity of compassion and charity among the members of higher classes, which is evident from taking Harriet Smith of the lower class and bringing her to almost an equal social level. The readers can also see Emma pointing out the lower - class distinction of Harriet and the assertion that she would not have been accepted by the higher class, if she did not have Emma's influence. This causes confusion for Harriet who is caught between the desire of marriage and acceptance from higher class and the fear of rejection from her peers, like the Martins. Love is another major theme of the story. Even though Emma considers the possibility of her marriage to Frank Churchill, the reader finds that she is immune to romantic love. She even acknowledges that she does not love Churchill and that she is happy in his presence as well as in his absence. Here, Austin seems to argue that for the society, love is not a requirement for marriage. On the other hand, the social class, fortune and logical qualities become the decisive factors for marriages. However, we can see that Emma, who is financially independent, does not need to succumb to the above logical considerations and that she is able to marry Mr. Knightley solely for love. The marriages of Harriet Smith and Jane Fairfax also involve love, though their alliances also serve the purpose of financial and social security. The novel also involves the theme of imaginat ion vs. reason, which becomes unraveled only to the eyes of the audience. There exists constant conflict between desires and judgment in this novel. When Emma misreads Mr. Elton's behavior, she imagines that he is in love with Harriet. Mr. Elton, on the other hand, is in love with Emma and misreads her behavior for encouragement. Mr. Knightley is unable to form an infallible judgment of Frank Churchill, as he is jealous of Churchill's

Josh Roller Period 6 11/23/13 Professional Athletes are Paid Too Much When the average American envisions a professional athlete, they imagine that athlete to be in a massive mansion, with a garage full of expensive and exotic cars, relaxing in designer clothes and spending the day pondering what they could spend their money on. Their lives are great and even after they retire they remain in the country’s spotlight and stay wealthy beyond all belief. Why do professional athletes lead such a good life if they do not fulfill any necessary functions within society? Professional athletes make too much money in comparison to hard working professionals who are employed with jobs that are more essential and important for the general population’s survival and effectiveness. These professional athletes are making huge amounts of money that they do not deserve and something needs to be changed to remove this. Athletes make incredibly ridiculous amounts of money, Forbes Magazine lists Tiger Woods, a professional golf player, as the highest paid athlete in the entire world in 2013 (Forbes). Tiger Woods currently has a net worth of over $500 million, on track to be the first billionaire athlete of all time, and he brings in $78 million annually. The vast majority of the money that Tiger Woods receives is not from winning competitions or as a salary, but rather from endorsements. Tiger Woods is an incredibly marketable athlete and has received numerous contracts with many large companies including General Motors, General Mills, American Express and Nike, Inc. Tiger Woods has only been a professional golfer since August of 1996, creating an astronomical fortune in such a short amount of time. Second to Tiger Woods in yearly earnings i... ...ysical toll they put on their bodies in an attempt to be the best. While this may be a compelling argument, no one needs $500 million to live comfortably for an entire lifetime. Not only are these people overcompensated for the time they spend actually competing in their sports, they can easily take jobs after their short career in sports. Nothing stops these athletes from making a living off of another job after their athletic career is over. These athletes have no true reason to the necessity of them earning so much money. While much of the world loves to watch their favorite sport, they do not approve of how much that they have to pay to do so. These people have demanding and important jobs, but receive no where near as much money as the athletes they watch do. Professional athletes should not get as much money as they currently are in this flawed system.

Good vs evil in Shakespeare’s Macbeth Essay

The play ‘Macbeth’ is a very tragic one. It is about the downfall of a hero who is led by temptation to mass murder and cruelty. Shakespeare uses various styles and techniques to display very evidently how Macbeth’s character develops as the story progresses, and thus we see how Macbeth turns from good to evil, from a â€Å"valiant cousin† and â€Å"worthy gentleman† to a â€Å"bloody butcher.† The play tells the story of how a noble warrior, Macbeth, descends into evil after meeting with three witches – supernatural beings who prophesy Macbeth’s destiny. He is told he will become King of Scotland, and this idea of gaining power leads him to murder the king, take his throne and then continue his ‘murder spree’ on seemingly whoever he feels like. Eventually Macbeth is slain and order is restored in Scotland. From the very start we have progressively come to abhor Macbeth, however, we cannot help but feel a certain admiration for him. But much more we have a sense of irony and waste: irony because some sterling qualities have been put to such evil use, waste because Macbeth was a potentially great man who was lost. . Macbeth is a play concerned wholly with the battle between good and evil – throughout the play we continually see signs of a supernatural struggle between the two, with evil ‘winning’ over good when Macbeth murders the king, but then good finally defeating evil when Macbeth is slain. In fact, in the very opening scene we see signs of supernatural happenings and evil – the witches: â€Å"Fair is foul and foul is fair; Hover through the fog and filthy air† Here we see that, to the witches, what is evil is good (â€Å"foul is fair†) and what is good they find repulsive (â€Å"fair is foul†). This seems to be their attitude to life, but it could also be a warning to the audience that things to follow are not what they might seem. The first we hear of Macbeth is with praises to his name. He is called ‘brave Macbeth’, ‘valiant cousin’ and ‘worthy gentleman,’ fighting a war for God, king and country. â€Å"For brave Macbeth – well he deserves that name – Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel, Which smoked with bloody execution†¦Ã¢â‚¬ However, it is in scene III that good and evil collide, when Macbeth meets with the witches. Some say that this is the beginning of Macbeth’s downfall, as in his first  soliloquy he has already thought of the idea of murdering his king. This small seed planted in his mind will soon sprout and he will indeed commit treason. Already, the audience loses their adoration for Macbeth as we see his mental frailty and evil intention. The question at hand is what Macbeth should do; is he determined on evil intent or is divine intervention the answer? He contemplates this, and decides that it is not worthwhile to throw everything away for one guilty conscience, instead the solution is murder. We are soon introduced to Lady Macbeth, and it becomes clear that she is the ambition, the ‘driving force’, behind her husband. To Lady Macbeth, her husband is brave, loving, ambitious yet he is too noble to fulfil the third prophesy. Lady Macbeth then calls upon evil spirits to make her ruthless so she can kill Duncan. â€Å"Come you spirits, That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the top toe-full Of direst cruelty; make thick my blood.† After reading the letter, she already has a plan brewing. However, she fears Macbeth’s nature. ‘yet I do fear thy nature, it is too full o’th’milk of human kindness’, ‘Thou wouldst be great, Art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it’, ‘What thou wouldst highly, that wouldst thou holily; wouldst not play false, And yet wouldst wrongly win.’ The planning of the murder of Duncan is one of the most important sections of this tragedy. Here we see a conflict in Macbeth’s character, one side wants him to commit the murder, while the other wants to let fate take its course. In a way it is due to his wife that Macbeth is finally persuaded into committing treason. This shows one of the flaws in his character, which Shakespeare exposes. A while after Macbeth has certain misgivings about the affair. In his mind he argues out the advantages and disadvantages. The good side of him says that ‘he’s here in double trust’ ‘I am his kinsman and subject’, ‘as his host who should against his murderers shut the door, not bear the knife myself.’ The more cunning party says that ‘ his virtues will plead like angels trumpet-tongued against the deep-damnation of his taking off’, ‘but only vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself and falls on the other’,’twere  well it were done quickly’, ‘but this blow might be and the end all here’, ‘bloody instructions, which being taught, return to plague th’ inventor.’ Yet he cannot maintain this spark of morality as, under the influence of his wife he commits treachery. After the murder Macbeth experienced remorse, guilt and regret, still revealing his nobility. â€Å"I am afraid to think what I have done† he says. He is troubled by his conscience, he realizes that he is cut off from heaven. He is in fact so hampered in his actions by the conflict between his knowledge that he has committed the crime and his abhorrence of it, that he becomes immobile. Macbeth’s evil is so great that he cannot even say amen to his prayer â€Å",I could not say amen.† By now he realizes he is too deep into his acts of violence to turn back. Macbeth has confused the values of good and evil. That is, he has confused fair and foul, which confusion has all along been the devil’s aim. Macbeth has completely committed himself to evil. Macbeth still thinks of himself as a man, and as such would rather die than suffer the indignity of being ‘baited with the rabble’s curse.’ This feeling in him reminds us of the worthy Macbeth at the beginning of the play. We also see that he still has the courage to act on his convictions, desperate though that courage may be. For he knows now that he must die. He fights as a man. Macduff and Macbeth fight which signifies the ever on-going battle between good and evil. Eventually Macbeth is slain and the evil has been stopped in Scotland – good has triumphed, as Malcom is crowned the new King.
